House rules
Five simple rules that keep buying, selling and hiring safe across Somerset. Breaking them can get your listings removed and your account banned.
No deposits. Ever.
Never ask for, take or pay a deposit, holding fee or “delivery fee” before the buyer has seen the item. It’s the most common scam on local selling sites.
Asking for or taking a deposit = a ban. If anyone asks you for one, don’t pay. Report them.
Check before you pay
See the item in person and check it works before any money changes hands. Pay on collection, with cash or a bank transfer while you’re there. When you buy, the site asks you to confirm you’ll do this.
- Meet somewhere sensible, in daylight, and bring someone if you can.
- For vehicles, check the documents and do an HPI check.
- If something feels wrong, walk away.
At least 2 real photos
Every listing needs at least two photos of the actual item (up to eight). No stock photos or pictures from the internet. Listings without two photos stay as drafts and aren’t shown.
Be honest, and leave feedback
Describe things accurately, including faults. Mark items as sold. Buyers leave feedback on their last purchase before buying again, so ratings stay real. Pros and customers can review each other after a job.
Report scams
Use Report on any listing, job, community post, member or message thread. Tell us what happened. A listing with three open reports is hidden automatically until a moderator checks it. Reports are private: the person you report isn’t told who reported them.
Watch out for: deposits, “I’ll send a courier”, overpayments, requests for codes sent to your phone, links to pay outside the site, and pressure to move to WhatsApp before you’ve met.
