Terms of use

Draft version, October 2026

1. Who we are

Somerset Buy and Sale (“we”, “us”) is run by B2C RIDES Ltd, 4 Miltons, Chipstable, Taunton, Somerset TA4 2PZ. You can contact us at b2crides@gmail.com or on 01823 216789.

These terms apply whenever you use somersetbuyandsale.co.uk. Please also read our House rules, Privacy policy and Cookies and storage page, which form part of these terms.

2. Using the site

Somerset Buy and Sale is a local noticeboard. It helps people in Somerset list items for sale, find local trades and services, and share community events. We are not the seller, buyer, tradesperson or organiser of anything shown on the site, and we aren’t a party to any deal you make with another member.

Anyone can browse. To list items, message members, post jobs, send estimates, save items or post to the community you need an account. You must be 18 or over to create one.

3. Your account

  • Give accurate details and keep your email address up to date.
  • Keep your password private. You’re responsible for what happens on your account.
  • One account per person. Don’t create accounts for someone else or to get around a suspension or ban.
  • Usernames must not impersonate anyone or be offensive. We may change or remove one that is.
  • You can ask us to close your account at any time by emailing b2crides@gmail.com.

4. Buying and selling

  • Sellers must own what they list (or have the right to sell it), describe it honestly and include at least two real photos of the actual item.
  • Payment is cash (or a bank transfer) on collection, after the buyer has seen the item in person and checked it works. See Check before you pay.
  • No deposits. Asking for, or taking, a deposit is against our house rules and leads to a ban.
  • Any sale is a contract between the buyer and the seller. If you buy from a private seller your rights are more limited than when you buy from a business. Business sellers must follow consumer law.
  • Sellers should mark items as sold when they sell. Buyers rate their last purchase before buying again, which keeps feedback honest.
  • Postage, where offered, is arranged between buyer and seller. We don’t handle payments or deliveries yet.

5. Jobs and estimates

  • Customers can post a job and local pros can send estimates. An estimate is a guide price from the pro, not a binding quote, unless the pro and customer agree otherwise.
  • Any agreement to do work is between the customer and the pro. Pros are responsible for their own work, qualifications, insurance and any licences they need (for example a taxi licence).
  • Details on pro profiles, such as qualifications and insurance, are self-declared unless they carry a “Verified” badge. A Verified badge means we checked the evidence we were shown at the time. It isn’t a guarantee of the work.
  • Pro members may see new jobs before free members for a limited time, as described on the jobs board.

6. Community posts

Members and local businesses can post events and offers. Organisers are responsible for their events, including safety, licences, accuracy and any changes or cancellations. Only people who said they were going can rate an event after it has finished.

7. Your content

You keep ownership of the words and photos you post. You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, show, resize and share them on the site (and in links or previews of the site, for example when a member shares a listing) for as long as they’re on the site, and for a reasonable time afterwards in backups.

Only post photos you took yourself or have permission to use. Don’t post other people’s personal details.

8. What’s not allowed

  • Illegal, stolen, counterfeit or unsafe items, weapons, drugs, alcohol or tobacco sold to under-18s, live animals sold in breach of the law, and anything that needs a licence you don’t have.
  • Scams, fake listings, deposits, “send me a code” requests, or moving people to other apps to avoid our safety checks.
  • Harassment, hate, threats, discrimination or adult content.
  • Spam, misleading prices, duplicate listings or fake reviews.
  • Trying to break, overload, scrape or get around the security of the site.

9. Moderation, suspension and bans

Members can report listings, jobs, posts and other members. Items with several open reports are hidden automatically until a moderator looks at them. Our moderators may hide or remove content, warn members, or suspend or ban accounts that break these terms or the house rules. Taking or asking for a deposit is a ban. We keep a record of moderation actions.

If you think we got it wrong, email us and we’ll take another look.

10. Feedback and reviews

Feedback must be honest, about a real deal or job, and free of personal abuse. We may remove feedback that breaks these rules, but we won’t remove fair negative feedback just because someone doesn’t like it.

11. Fees and paid features

Using the site is currently free. We plan to offer optional paid extras, such as Pro membership and featuring a listing or post. Featured items show first with a “Featured” badge. We sometimes feature items for free. Before you pay for anything we’ll show the price and any extra terms, and you’ll have the cancellation rights the law gives you.

12. Our responsibility to you

We work to keep the site safe and running, but we can’t check every listing, member, item or job, and we don’t guarantee that the site will always be available or error-free. As we’re not part of the deals between members, we’re not responsible for the quality, safety or legality of items, work or events, or for members’ actions.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

13. Changes and ending

We may update these terms. If a change is important we’ll tell you on the site or by email before it applies. You can stop using the site and close your account at any time. We may close accounts that break these terms.

14. Law and complaints

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can deal with any dispute. If you have a complaint, please contact us first at b2crides@gmail.com or 01823 216789 and we’ll try to sort it out.
